Earth Advantage features a new builder every month to highlight the great work our builder clients are doing.
Making a sustainable home doesn’t just mean going green–it means creating homes with lasting value that contribute to the productive growth and positive health of the communities in which we live. Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East has a commitment to green building and continuously looks for ways to make homes affordable to live in and affordable to buy.
We do this by partnering with local, hardworking, low-income families to help them realize the dream of owning their own home. Here’s how it works: after completing 500 sweat equity hours, families sign their 0%-interest mortgages and make monthly payments that are based on less than 30% of their monthly incomes. These payments go into the Revolving Fund for Humanity to pay it forward, helping to build more homes.
Instead of being in a vulnerable and fragile economic position, Habitat families find themselves in a position of strength. Habitat homeowners are committed and successful.
We are currently in our final phase of a 45-home build located at SE 171st and Division Street. All of these homes are built to Earth Advantage standards and are expected to achieve Platinum status.
